Poached Cinnamon Vanilla Apples
Poached Cinnamon Vanilla Apples – Granny Smith apples poached in water flavored with cinnamon, vanilla, sugar and lemon. After the apples are cooked to tender they’re removed from the liquid. The liquid is then cooked down until you have a light syrup. The apples are placed back into the syrup to warm them, then placed in bowls with a small amount of syrup poured over them.
They were delicious! It was like eating the warm spiced filling of an apple pie. You can serve this apple treat with ice cream, vanilla yogurt or a dollop of whipped cream. I ate two before Paul was able to get one, Poached Cinnamon Vanilla Apples, ENJOY!
- 4 granny Smith Apples peeled with stems intact
- 3 cups white sugar
- 3 Teaspoons vanilla extract
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 2 quarts water
- juice of one lemon
Place the vanilla, sugar, cinnamon sticks and lemon juice in a pot that is big enough to hold 2 quarts of water and the apples. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Place the apples in the pot. Cook over medium to low heat for about 20 minutes until apples are tender.
Remove the apples from the pot to a plate, pierce with a knife. Cook the liquid in the pot until you have a light syrup. I cooked the liquid until it reduced to about half the quantity I began with.
You will not have a syrup as thick as a corn syrup. It will be a thin syrup.
Put the apples back into the pot to warm them. Serve in shallow bowls with syrup poured over the apples.
