How Ripe Do My Bananas Have to Be To Make Banana Bread Pudding?

We’re use to using very, very ripe bananas to bake with. When we think about making cakes, bars or quick breads with bananas we want overly ripe bananas. Like… the ugliest, blackest bananas we can get. Why? Because the riper they are the more banana flavor they put into our baked goods. Those ugly, black bananas get mashed up and incorporated into a batter to flavor it, so they have to have an intense banana flavor.

The bananas we use to make Banana Bread Pudding are going to be ripe bananas but not overly ripe. You want bananas that:

  • don’t have any green on them but at the same time aren’t overly ripe with black spots
  • the perfect eating bananas
  • bananas that hold their shape when sliced into 1/4 inch pieces for the recipe
  • the bananas to be soft and fragrant but not mushy

Now that we have the perfect bananas , let’s gather the ingredients for Banana Bread Pudding and make it together.
